Bengali Cuisine

Rice and fish is the staple diet of Bengalis. Some devout Hindus are vegetarians but most of them relish fish. The Bengalis have the weakness for sweets especially Roshogullas and desserts derived from milk products. The tribal and poor rural areas have a special alcoholic brew made from palm juice, whereas the urban areas have accepted English liquor. Tea is favorite non-alcoholic beverage. The betel leaf chewing and smoking of tobacco is the Mughal legacy and part and parcel of the Bengali hospitality.
