The cultural diversity of the Bengali people has given them the religious tolerance and festivals of all the religions are celebrated here. Durga Puja is the main and a hugely important festival for most of the Bengalis. The predominately Muslim artisans who make the clay statues of Durga contribute in their own way to this Hindu festival. The other Hindu festivals like Diwali, Holi, Janashmatami are also celebrated. The Muslims celebrate Moharrum, Idul-Zuha and Idul-Fitr. The people of Bengal revere and hold in high esteem Guru Rabindranath Tagore and Subhash Chandra Bose. The Rabindra Jayanti is celebrated on the birthday of Tagore and all the Bengalis, forgetting their caste or creed participate in the festivities. Rabindra Sangeet and his plays are performed all over Calcutta. Many seminars and literary discussions are organized forming it a big cultural event in the State. The Bose Jayanti brings a different hue of the Bengali penchant. The school and college kids dressed in military uniform parade through the streets reminding everyone the contribution of the great freedom fighter of Bengal.
